Trick: Ex Cu Se (ExCuSe)
- Ex- Exercise Tax
- Cu- Custom Tax
- Se- Service Tax
Struggling to remember types of indirect taxes for SSC exams? Here's a simple and effective memory trick that helped me — and it might help you too!
Break it down like this:
Ex → Excise Tax This is a tax levied on the manufacture of goods within the country. Think of it as a tax on production.
Cu → Customs Tax This is charged on goods imported into or exported out of the country. It’s all about cross-border trade.
Se → Service Tax This was levied on services provided (now subsumed under GST, but still useful for historical context and PYQs).
Why it works:
The word “Excuse” is easy to remember and already familiar. By associating each syllable with a tax type, you create a mental shortcut that sticks.
