My strategy for ssc mts exam
Hi everyone! In this post, I’m sharing the exact strategy I followed to clear the SSC MTS 2023 exam with a strong score. If you're preparing for SSC MTS, this guide will help you plan your preparation smartly and avoid common mistakes.
My Score in SSC MTS 2023
Tier 1: Maths 19/20 Reasoning 19/20Tier 2: English: 25/25 GK: 17/25
EXAM STRUCTURE OVERVIEW
SSC MTS consists of two sections:
Tier 1 (Qualifying): Maths and Reasoning
Tier 2 (Merit-Based): English and General Awareness (GK)
Important Note: Tier 1 is qualifying in nature, but Tier 2 decides your final merit and posting location. So, your main focus should be on English and GK.
My Preparation Strategy
- Syllabus Completion (YouTube-Based Learning)
I followed this subject order for preparation:
Reasoning – Most scoring and easiest to master
English – Important for merit and easy to improve
Maths – Practice-based, but manageable
GK – Vast syllabus, prepared last
I used trusted YouTube channels to complete the syllabus. This helped me build a strong foundation without spending on coaching.
Focus Areas for Merit
Since English and GK are used for final merit calculation:
I gave more time to English and GK.
Focused on vocabulary, grammar PYQs, and current affairs + static GK.
Created short notes and revised regularly.
Smart Time Allocation
Reasoning & Maths: Less time, but consistent practice
English & GK: More time, deeper revision
Mocks: Weekly full-length tests + daily sectional quizzes
PYQs and Mock Tests
I solved Previous Year Questions (PYQs) from SSC MTS, CGL, and CHSL exams.
Practicing higher-level papers (CGL & CHSL) made MTS questions feel easier.
I gave sectional and full mocks on platforms like Testbook to track progress and improve speed.
Final Tips for SSC MTS Aspirants
Start with Reasoning to build confidence.
Don’t ignore GK, but prepare it last with a focused plan.
Use PYQs as your primary practice material.
Give mock tests regularly and analyze mistakes.
Prioritize Tier 2 subjects for merit selection.
